Since april last year the new line of Quar miniatures from WGA and on MMF has steadily grown, which we love seeing. However this can make it a little harder to jump into as a new person with now several factions in or approaching production, so lets give it a breakdown by a nerd-extraordinare.
Pics in the below collages have been generously stolen from the store photos.
[edit:] Also worth noting is that many of the STL factions and conversion kits will likely also be getting plastic releases from WGA down the line.
Alykinder's Crusade
Availability
Introduced as model kits, being one of the two main factions in the starter set Clash of Rhyfles.
Allegiance
The Crusader cause
Lore
United by an ideal of ending the long war plaguing all Quar by overthrowing the royal families. They seek to escalating the conflict in pursuit of this noble goal. They annex or liberate territory in equal measure, and their public support differs a lot form region to region. Stagnation and the death of their founder Alykinder himself threatens their unity and purpose in more modern time.
Forces
Their main weapon, the Bogen, has a reliable snapshot score letting them do overwatch and reactive fire more easily than royalist forces.
Their heavy rhyfle the Rhyshi has a large caliber able to ping and damage even vehicles.
They have access to shotgun-wielding trench raiders and the portable anti-tractor Splagen Torpedos.
The Royal Kingdom of Coftyr
Availability
Introduced as model kits, being one of the two main factions in the starter set Clash of Rhyfles.
Allegiance
The Royal houses
Lore
The last line of defense for the seat of the royal houses. For a long time they have held fast, but in the end the defenses broke and they plugged the hole with volunteers. Ragged by a years long siege they are licking their wounds and trying to recouperate their strength.
Forces
Their main weapon is the Harlech, a long rhyfle with good range and melee strength. Outranging crusaders, but lacking their reactiveness.
Their base squads carry the Cryfen automatic machine gun, which can lay down impressive fire.
They have access to SMG wielding trench raiders, while their anti-tractor weapon is a small crewed artillery platform.
The Crusader-state of Toulmore
Availability
They can be made through convertion kits for Crusader models.
Allegiance
The Crusader cause, previously independent
Lore
Taken and retaken countless times by warring nobles, they gladly joined the crusader cause. Fiercely independent veteran fighters who have held onto their ancestral land longer than some principalities have existed.
Forces
They are armed like the Crusaders, but most of their troops have higher Skill, resulting in a more expensive but reliable force.
Their sharpshooters use captured Harlech's from Coftyr. They and their officers are also Veterans, able to shrug off suppression and shellshock.
They do not have any trench raiders, but their anti-tractor weapon is a portable mortar that can be braced for easier shots.
The Principality of Gwynt
Availability
They can be made through convertion kits for Coftyr models.
Allegiance
The Royal houses
Lore
A neighbor of Coftyr who won independence in skirmishes with the kingdom. They flourished while Coftyr came under fire. And are now spending their wealth to aid rebuilding efforts, while also forwarding their own agenda as they remind Coftyr of their debt.
Forces
They are armed largely like Coftyr, but have access to some alternatve force choices. Such as officers that can rally troops more easily, while lacking units like trench raiders.
They don't have sharpshooters, instead they have Grenadiers, who can throw grenades for less action points.
Instead of the Cryfen LMG, they have Scatterguns which can be carried in larger numbers. These are both a more risky, but potentially more destructive to use.
They still have the RCO artillery platform!
The Western-Arnyarans
Availability
They are available as 3d-printable STLs on MyMiniFactory.
Allegiance
Currently have an arrangement with the Crusaders, but they are ultimately independant.
Lore
A dispossessed people who now roam the world as nomadic caraveners, peddling spice tea and secrets. Wishing to reclaim their eastern homelands (now Creevin), they armed themselves in secret. Being promised no Crusader resistance if they move on Creevin, so long as they attack Coftyr to, they have joined the war properly by doing just that.
Forces
They arent a standardized military like other factions. Instead they carry poorer weaponry and field less welltrained Quar, however this means their troops are cheap and pleantiful. They also lack the stables of larger armies such as Standard Bearers and Messenger Squirrels.
Their Officers can 'Fire and Advance' having large groups provide cover fire for allies, preventing suppression when they advance.
They have the games first Autocyle, usable to move quickly, scout and outflank their opposition.
The Fidwog F.O.D.
Availability
They have just been released on Wargames Atlantic as a plastic kit.
Allegiance
The Royal houses
Lore
Fidwog is a rich mountain kingdom bordering the Crusader home state of Tok. They took in refugees, held firm and eventually started funding and teaching insurgent groups in Crusader territories. With increasing success and funding, their Overseas Department is now making landfall to help their fellow kingdoms.
Forces
They carry Skeytch rhyfles, comparable to the Crusader's semi-automatic Bogen. Like Coftyr they also have an automatic weapon in each squad, unlike the Cryfen, their gun doesnt need an assistant loader and is large caliber, able to serve as an anti-vehicle weapon.
Each squad has a small Tractor accompanying them, giving them an unique edge.
Their trench raiders are Miners, carrying shotguns and picks.
Their list also includes things like attack dogs and troops with anti-tractor lances, but we have no new models for these yet.
The Principality of Gloam Hynn
Availability
They are available as 3d-printable STLs on MyMiniFactory and are part of a collaboration with Mish Mash!
Allegiance
The Royal houses
Lore
Marsh-dwelling dye-farmers looked down upon by Coftyr if not for their trade goods. They're a minor principality joining the war. Their forces are largely formed by local trackers and hunters, as well as waders-wearing Coftyran officials bemoaning their new position.
Forces
They carry pretty standard Coftyran equipment, with the exception of their Harlech rhyfles being shortened carbines instead. Their Yawdryls can make all the troops under their command Skirmishers.
Instead of trench raiders they have Sarf-Cyn lizards and their handlers. These beasts become wild and unpredicable without their handler, and even when given directions will occationally interscept enemy messenger squirrels as a quick snack.
They also have Trappers, who can during deployment place 5 traps on the board. Two will be decoys the rest wont, these traps comes in the shapes of alarm bells, trapjaws and anti-tractor explosives.
